The Autobiography of a Flea (1976)

Set in the 1800s, a tiny flea narrates the sex escapades it sees from afar whom is Belle, a 14-year-old girl who lives with her controlling uncle. Father Ambrose is a young unscrupulous priest from her local parish whom decides to take advantage of Belle’s naiveness to seduce her and teams up with Belle’s uncle to exploit Belle’s newly aroused sexuality. Meanwhile, Belle’s best friend Julie has problems with her own life when her parents ignore her for their own sexual encounters, and she is pursued by the very endowned Father Clement, one of Father Ambrose’s associates, who also wants to satisfy his carnal urges.

The Notorious Cleopatra (1970)

For a ’sexploitation’ picture, THE NOTORIOUS CLEOPATRA doesn’t really work as one. The little bits of comedy we do see are pretty inane asides to the camera in the style of “Laugh-In”, which thankfully are pretty much relegated to the first third of the picture. The sex scenes don’t work too well either, dragging on for 5-10 minutes at a stretch and featuring some uglies who should have been paid to stay clothed. The film would have probably worked better as a straight period piece, since surprisingly most of the cast are fairly decent in their roles. Rocco, although wooden as the Trojan Horse with his facial expressions, does the best among all the cast as Marc Antony. The film actually gets less comical as it rolls on, turning dead serious in the last 10 minutes! And most shocking of all, it actually seems to work better that way.

Breaking Point (1975)

Described as a ‘pornographic thriller’ and made the year after the same director’s Thriller- A Cruel Picture, this mad concoction makes less sense but is somehow more likable. An odd word to use, I guess, as this includes scenes of rape, murder, necrophilia, the picking up of a young girl, arson and firing atomic bullets! Never did work out what the guns were all about but the director certainly likes them, almost as much as setting things ablaze and hardcore sex, all with a sense of humour. There doesn’t seem to be much logic to the tale as the main protagonist moves from rapist to opportunist and then to contemplating paedophilia before loading up his other shooter for the finale. But if the rather erotic scenes and almost surreal touches make up for the odd lapses, whose complaining?

The Sweet Body of Deborah (1968)

The Sweet Body of Deborah: Deborah, a wealthy American, and her Italian husband, Marcel, are honeymooning in Geneva when they meet Marcel’s friend Philip, who belligerently informs them that Susan, Marcel’s former fiancée, has committed suicide. The couple stop at Susan’s deserted villa, where Marcel receives a death threat over the telephone. In Nice, he continues to receive menacing phone calls, and Deborah begins taking tranquilizers; one evening she accidentally takes too many and is revived by Robert, an artist who lives in the adjacent villa. Later, Philip attempts to murder her to avenge Susan’s suicide, but Marcel appears, stabs Philip, and buries his body in the garden. The next morning, when Marcel leaves to buy two plane tickets to the United States, Philip and Susan suddenly appear; when the terror-stricken Deborah faints, the couple drug her, slash her wrists to make her death look like suicide, and drive away.
