Breaking Point (1975)

Described as a ‘pornographic thriller’ and made the year after the same director’s Thriller- A Cruel Picture, this mad concoction makes less sense but is somehow more likable. An odd word to use, I guess, as this includes scenes of rape, murder, necrophilia, the picking up of a young girl, arson and firing atomic bullets! Never did work out what the guns were all about but the director certainly likes them, almost as much as setting things ablaze and hardcore sex, all with a sense of humour. There doesn’t seem to be much logic to the tale as the main protagonist moves from rapist to opportunist and then to contemplating paedophilia before loading up his other shooter for the finale. But if the rather erotic scenes and almost surreal touches make up for the odd lapses, whose complaining?

The Beauty's Evil Roses (1992)

A beautiful stranger, Yan-Hong (who is one of the Roses), wanders into Inspector Liang's office, takes her gear off, then turns him into a zombie-servant of the Evil God. Policeman Cheng tries to get his wife, who is also an Inspector and his boss, in the mood for sex, but she handcuffs him and walks off. Ah-Kong and his sister, Sao Mui, are out for a stroll. Ah-Kong is also trying to stop his lovely wife Mannie from posing for nude modelling. Yan-Hong is arrested by Cheng and is interrogated, then she reports to her superior, the leather-clad Dai-Jeh ("Big Sister"), who practices her evil laugh and hands out a whipping as punishment. Later, a dozy Taoist priest is called in to exorcise the Beauty and her Evil Roses. The priest fails, but lays the groundwork for the final showdown between good and evil.

Les Nuits Chaudes De Justine (1976)

Once respected filmmaker whose work’s no longer considered “cutting edge” by those in the know, Mick Farèse (well-played by handsome Philippe Gasté, best remembered for his performances in Jean-François Davy’s naughty triptych consisting of BANANES MECANIQUES, PRENEZ LA QUEUE COMME TOUT LE MONDE and Q) finds himself pressured by a sleazy, money-grabbing producer (pricelessly portrayed by veteran character actor Bernard Musson, who has appeared for Bunuel in THE MILKY WAY and THE DISCREET CHARM OF BOURGEOISIE) into producing an unflinching porno epic because sex is the only thing that audiences seem to be clamoring for these days. Assuming it will all be done in the best possible taste, Mick’s successful actress wife Nina (a sparkling, Carole Lombard type turn by beautiful one shot wonder Michèle Baron) agrees to star, fresh from baring all on the Paris stage. If only Mick could find inspiration to create that fabled fornication film that would draw the disparate opinions of both porn theater patrons and ivory tower critics who scoff at such vulgarity closer together. Enter Justine (frizzy-curled stunner Nadia Kapler), a nude dancer in a revue Mick and Nina saw that night before and who may just be a figment of their imagination as they frantically search for an angle that will make their sex saga stand out from the crowd.
